DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire Director of Athletics Allison Rich announced Monday the appointment of Michelle Mallett to the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine, effective immediately.
Mallett, who has been part of the UNH family for eight years, has served as an associate head athletic trainer, providing exceptional care and medical services to Wildcat student-athletes. While serving as the primary athletic trainer for the women's ice hockey program, Mallett has been responsible for hiring, orientating, coordinating, and overseeing new athletic training staff, sports dietitians and mental health clinicians. She has also been involved in various NCAA, league and university committees and initiatives in addition to managing the medical care for student-athletes during national and conference competition, including the 2024 Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four.
"After a nationwide search, we congratulate Michelle Mallett on this well-earned opportunity to lead the UNH sports medicine program as our Associate Director of Athletics," Rich said. "She has a proven record of putting the care of our student-athletes first to ensure their health and well-being are the primary focus and they are able to compete to the best of their abilities."
Mallett takes on the responsibility of overseeing UNH's athletic training program and collaborating with the extended support team and coaches to provide exceptional prevention, care, and rehabilitation of Wildcat student-athletes.
"I am honored to be selected as the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine here at UNH and am sincerely grateful to Dr. Rich for giving me this opportunity," Mallett said. "I have learned so much from our previous director Jon Dana, our extended sports medicine staff, and all my conference colleagues. I look forward to leading the UNH Sports Medicine Department into its next chapter of caring for the student-athlete."
Mallett earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from South Dakota State University (2007) and her Master of Science in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science and health from Louisiana Tech University (2009). She began her athletic training career as a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech, moved on to Mount Saint Mary's University (2009-12) and Middle Tennessee State University (2012-16) before arriving in Durham in August 2016. She succeeds Dana, who retired June 30 following a 40-year career in sports medicine at UNH.
