FIRST QUARTER:
- UMBC started off the first scoring two quick buckets. Junior guard Clara Gomez(Barcelona, Spain) put the first points on the board for the 'Cats.
- Both teams struggled to find a rhythm in the opening minutes of the game with a score of 6-4 favoring UMBC with 4:40 remaining in the quarter.
- With 2:50 left in the first, freshman guard Sharmela Reid (Montreal, Quebec) tied up the game by going 1-2 from the free throw line.
- Both teams' shooting struggles continued into the second quarter.
- UMBC broke the cold streak by scoring a three-pointer and then getting a quick steal leading to a layup and a trip to the line resulting in a three-point play.
- The 'Cats responded quickly with a defensive stop and a fast break point scored by sophomore guard Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden)
- The Wildcats began to mount a comeback in the final minutes of the quarter, going on a 5-0 run and cutting the UMBC lead down to just six points.
- Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain) scored the opening points of the half for the 'Cats posting up and capitalizing on a miss-match.
- Despite their best efforts, the Wildcats were unable to heat up in the third scoring four points in the quarter.
- The 'Cats kick-started their offense in the fourth thanks to attacking in the paint leading to multiple trips to the line early on.
- UNH cut the Retriever lead from 18-12 going on a 6-0 run with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter.
- The Wildcats were ultimately unable to mount a full comeback due to being forced to foul in the final minutes of the game.
