UNH Dominates in Season Opener

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team kicked off its season with a commanding 83-34 victory over Worcester State on Monday evening at Lundholm Gym.
Sophomore Eva DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) led all scorers with 18 points, while junior Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) added 10 points on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting, along with a game-high four steals.

- Graduate Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to push the lead to 36-15 at the 4:28 mark, prompting a timeout from Worcester State.
- The Wildcats ended the half on a 9-0 run, capped off by a DeChent and-one play off a baseline out-of-bounds pass, taking a 45-15 lead into the locker room.

- The Lancers opened the second half with a 7-1 run, trimming the deficit to 46-22. UNH responded with back-to-back buckets.
- The Wildcats continued to control the game, ending the quarter with a 58-27 advantage.

- Sophomore Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) started the fourth quarter by draining a corner three.
- A 20-5 run, capped by a driving layup from junior Aina Roque Sucarrats (Cervera, Spain) extended the lead to 80-32.
- Junior Karolina Andersson (Söderköping, Sweden) nailed a 3-pointer to seal the 83-34 victory for the Wildcats.

- DeChent's 18 points and three steals both marked career highs in her debut for the Wildcats.
- Melero Sabat's 12 points tied her career best, while her eight rebounds set a new high.
- Cavanaugh added seven points, a game-high five assists, and four steals.
