UNH Clinches Two Seed With 3-0 Sweep Over UMBC on Senior Day

Serbousek surpasses 1,000 kills
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team clinched the America East Tournament two seed with a 3-0 sweep over UMBC on Senior Day.
The set scores were 25-16, 25-22, and 26-24.
Graduate Student Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) led UNH's attack with 14 kills and 14 points. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind) was next up with 9 kills and 11.5 points. UNH used two primary setters as sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the 'Cats with 22 assists and freshman Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif) recorded 11. Senior outside hitter Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey) led the team with 18 digs.

- Wildcats got off to a hot start with a 5-2 run with kills from Karabulut, senior right-side hitter Nadia Goich (Homer Glen, Ill), and Serbousek among two attack errors from UMBC.
- In her quest for 1000 kills, Serbousek recorded seven this set.
- UNH dominated set one, winning by a score of 25-16, with help from Serbousek, who recorded seven kills, Graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.), who recorded two, and Karabulut, who had two service aces and one kill.

- UNH started off strong taking a commanding 7-1 lead to start off the second set. Hohnbaum recorded three kills, Kaufmann recorded one along with three attack errors from UMBC.
- UMBC scored six unanswered points to take a 10-8 lead in the second set, UNH took control of the lead with three kills from Serbousek, one from Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) along with two attack errors from UMBC.
- Serbousek extended the Wildcats lead 18-15 as she recorded her 1,000th career kill.
- UNH remained strong and won set two 25-22.
- Hohnbaum recorded eight kills during set two

- UMBC took a 7-2 lead to start off the third set.
- Kills from Hohnbaum, Grier, Junior outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas and Kaufman along with two service aces from Junior libero/defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn) led the 'Cats to tying the set 14-14.
- The set tied eight times before reaching 24-24. A kill from Karabulut forced a UMBC timeout (25-24).
- UNH persevered and won set three 26-24 thanks to a block by senior right-side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore middle blocker/hitter Evelyn Brenton (Glastonbury, Conn.).

- Serbousek surpassed 1,000 kills
- UNH clinched the two seed and will play UMBC this Friday at Binghamton.
