
UNH Falls to Binghamton 3-2 Sunday Afternoon

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell to Binghamton 3-2 on Sunday.
The set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 12-15.
Graduate Student outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) led UNH's attack with 21 kills, 25 digs, and 24.5 points. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind) was next up with eight kills and nine points. UNH used two primary setters as sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the 'Cats with 30 assists and freshman Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif) recorded 17. Junior libero/defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn) also recorded 25 digs.

- The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. when they host UMBC.

- Set one was back and forth as the 'Cats and the Bearcats tied at one, two, three, six, and nine before the Wildcats scored three straight points to go up 12-9. Serbousek recorded two kills and graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) recorded one.
- The Wildcats continued their success from there by going on a 5-3 run that resulted in a Binghamton timeout. A senior right-side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) block forced the timeout.
- UNH remained strong and won set one 25-19 after a Kaufmann kill.

- UNH came out with a commanding 9-3 lead to start set two. Serbousek recorded two aces and a kill, and Kaufmann recorded a block and a kill.
- Binghamton scored seven unanswered points to take a 10-9 lead. UNH turned it around and found themselves up three after a senior outside hitter Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey)
- kill and a Bearcat attack error (17-14).
- Following a Binghamton timeout, LePore served an ace, Binghamton had a service error, then Singleton served an ace, and Karabulut and Armer recorded a block. This forced another Binghamton timeout at 21-15.
- UNH persevered and won set two 25-19 after three straight points. A Grier and Armer block, an Armer kill, and a Kaufmann kill.

- Hohnbaum began set three with two kills in a row. Binghamton took a 5-3 lead shortly after.
- An Armer and Grier block tied it back up at five but Binghamton scored three straight points to go up 8-5.
- Binghamton continued their momentum throughout the set with a 19-14 lead. An Armer kill and Grier ace tried to get UNH back in it but the Bearcats won set three 25-18.

- UNH came out firing with a 3-1 run with blocks from Kaufmann and Hohnbaum followed by a Serbousek kill.
- After Grier found the gap to tally a kill and make the score 6-4, Binghamton forced a UNH timeout as they went on a 5-0 run (9-6).
- Following the timeout, UNH tied the score at nine with kills by Armer and Serbousek along with an attack error.
- The set went back and forth but ultimately Binghamton won the set 25-23 to force a fifth set.

- Set five started out 2-2 with a kill from Serbousek and a Binghamton attack error.
- The Bearcats surged ahead to go up 8-4 resulting in a media timeout. After the timeout, Serbousek recorded back-to-back kills.
- Binghamton ultimately completed the 2-0 comeback and won set five 15-12.

- Serbousek is 23 kills away from 1,000.
- Kaufmann is 33.5 points away from 1,000.
