UNH Sweeps UAlbany 3-0 Friday Night

Wildcats Pick Up 11th Sweep of the Season
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team picked up their 11th 3-0 sweep of the season over UAlbany on Friday night.
The set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 28-26,
Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) led UNH's attack with eight kills and 14.5 points. She also led the team with nine block assists. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind) was next up with six kills and 7.5 points. UNH used two primary setters as freshman Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif) led the 'Cats with 17 assists and sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) recorded 13. Graduate Student outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the team with 19 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENEDSET 1
- The Wildcats got off to a quick start, going up 9-4. Graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) and Hohnbaum each recorded a block to kick off set one. Serbousek recorded two kills and Junior outside hitter Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) tallied a kill in her first start of the season.
- UNH went on a 4-0 run consisting of a Kaufmann kill, senior right-side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and Grier block, and attack errors by UAlbany to go up 12-5.
- UNH extended their lead to 20-12 with a Grier kill that forced a UAlbany timeout.
- The 'Cats continued their success and won the set 25-13 thanks to an Armer kill.
SET 2
- After a 2-1 UAlbany start to the set the Wildcats surged back with an 8-1 run consisting of three Hohnbaum kills, a Grier kill UAlbany attack errors, and blocks from Hohnbaum, Grier, and Serbousek.
- UNH continued their success by maintaining the lead for the remainder of the set to win 25-17 after an attack error by the Great Danes.
- Armer recorded four kills in set two.
SET 3
- The Great Danes began set three up 6-3. The Wildcats were forced to call a timeout after six straight UAlbany points, making the score 13-7.
- After a UNH timeout at 18-11, the 'Cats put three straight points on the board to force a UAlbany timeout. (Serbousek and Grier kill, Singleton ace).
- Following the Great Dane's timeout the Wildcats recorded four more unanswered points to tie the score at 18 a piece. UAlbany called their final timeout.
- Out of the Great Danes' time out, the two teams went point for point, resulting in a tie score of 24. The score tied at 25 and 26, but the Wildcats ultimately prevailed with two consecutive attack errors by the Great Danes to win the match 3-0.
UNH NOTEBOOK- Serbousek is 38 kills away from 1,000.
- Kaufmann is 37.5 points away from 1,000.
