Ryan Conmy scores two goals for the Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore forward Ryan Conmy (Alexandria, Va.) netted two goals but the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 12 Providence, 6-3, on Friday night at Schneider Arena in Hockey East action.

The Wildcats fall to 2-2-1 overall (0-1-1 Hockey East), while the Friars improve to 4-1-1 (2-0-1 Hockey East).

The Wildcats conclude the home-and-home series with Providence on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex at 4:30 p.m. with a 100 Years of UNH Hockey Pennant giveaway and postgame autographs. The game is on NESN and ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Providence took an early 1-0 lead at 2:21 of the first period, when Tanner Adams tipped in a shot by Andrew Centrella.
Ryan Reilly made it a 2-0 game when he fired a shot upper glove side from the left faceoff circle at 9:27.
At 13:48, the Friars scored their third goal of the period when Will Elger sent a loose puck from in front of the goal to the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
After Providence scored the first two goals of the second period, Conmy netted his third goal of the season to make the score 5-1 at 6:10 of the second period. Senior forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) each posted an assist on the goal.
After Providence extended the lead to 6-1, Devlin scored glove side for his first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 6-2 at 17:46. Sophomore forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) tallied an assist.
Conmy found the back of the net for the second time in the game at 10:06 of the third period with assists by Ring and junior forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.).
But the goal would be the last of the game for the 6-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

PC outshot UNH, 30-26.

Each team went 0-3 on the power play.

Junior goaltender Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) made 12 saves and allowed five goals over the first 25:45, while senior goalie Rico DiMatteo (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) posted 12 saves and allowed one goal over 34:15. Philip Svedeback tallied 23 saves to earn the win.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

Conmy has at least one point in all four games he has appeared in this season with four goals and two assists for six points.
This is the second time in his career that Conmy has scored two goals and this was his 12th multi-point game.
Devlin posted one goal and one assist and now has 13 career multi-point games.
Ring recorded two assists giving him his first career multi-point game.
