‘Cats Improve to 2-0 with 231-122 Win Over CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Wildcats took first place in eight of the nine events on the final day of the two-day dual meet as the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut, 231-122, at Jack Suydam Natatorium. UNH claimed victory in 16 of the 19 events over the two days.
"This was another strong weekend for us and our freshman class continues to do a great job stepping up," head coach Josh Willman said. "We still have a lot of things to work on as we move closer to the fall invitational at Brown, but I'm happy with what we are seeing so far for sure."

- The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn.), sophomore Emily Wright (Ventura, Calif.), sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), and senior Annie Jencova (Waikanae, New Zealand) opened day two with a first-place finish, clocking in at 1:49.56.
- Junior Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) followed her victory in the 50 free on day one with a first-place finish in the 100 free (53.40).
- Freshman Teagan Jeffers (Bedford, N.H.) continued her impressive start to the season, winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.23.
- Sophomore Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) secured an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 273.08 to finish first in the 1-meter dive.
- In the 100 butterfly, sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) took first place with an impressive time of 56.33, finishing three seconds ahead of the field.
- Freshman Lydia Hart (Cornwall, ON, Canada) claimed first in the 500 free with a commanding time of 5:04.64, finishing nearly six seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. This followed her earlier victory in the 200 free on day one.
- In the 200 breaststroke, Wright and freshman Macey Speakman (Coatesville, Pa.) achieved another one-two finish with times of 2:25.99 and 2:29.85, respectively, repeating their success from the 100 breaststroke a day ago.
- The 400 freestyle relay (Hart, Jeffers, Mahoney, Mahon) concluded the meet with another first-place finish (3:34.55).
