UNH Defeats Binghamton 3-0 Sunday Afternoon

Wildcats Record Ninth Sweep on Head Coach Feliciano’s Birthday
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team defeated Binghamton 3-0 on Sunday.
The set scores were 28-26, 25-23, 25-21.
Senior outside hitter Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey) led UNH's attack with 12 kills and 12.5 points. Graduate student outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) was next up with 7 kills and 8.5 points. UNH used two primary setters as sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the 'Cats with 24 assists and freshman Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif) recorded 16. Junior libero/defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn led the team with 12 digs.

● The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. when they travel to UMBC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
● The teams battled neck-and-neck, with a kill by Karabulut and blocks by Kaufmann and Hohnbaum and Karabulut, resulting in two forced timeouts from Binghamton (23-23).
● At set point, Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) tied up the match 25-25, and UNH ended the intense first set with a kill by Serbousek (28-26).
SET 2
● The 'Cats came out firing with a kill by Kaufmann followed by a successful Binghamton challenge (2-3).
● Binghamton kept chipping away, but Serbousek carried the lead with multiple kills to keep the 'Cats ahead, including kills by Karabulut and Grier (15-14).
● A block by Kaufmann tied up the set 17-17.
● UNH fell behind but crept back up tying 21-21, followed by a block by Grier and a Binghamton time-out (22-21).
● An ace by LePore and a kill by Hohnbaum kept UNH ahead, winning the set 25-23.
SET 3
● Set three kicked off with a strong start, with kills by Karabulut, Kaufmann and an ace by Serbousek.
● Binghamton crept back up, taking the lead 6-7, followed by a UNH timeout.
● A kill by Armer tied up the set 11-11, and Serbousek took the lead with a kill (12-11).
● UNH continued strong with a block by Kaufmann and Hohnbaum and scored 4 consecutive points resulting in a Binghamton time-out (18-14).
● A kill by Kaufmann put the team at match point, and UNH took the win from a Binghamton service error (25-21).
