Wildcats Fall to River Hawks 70-53

LOWELL, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 70-53 on Saturday afternoon in the second game of America East conference play.
Junior guard Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) scored a career-high 18 points in the game.

FIRST QUARTER:
- The River Hawks got off to a hot start in the first quarter. Rayne Durant of UMass Lowell scored the opening points in the quarter.
- The Wildcats responded quickly, with Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass) scoring a basket of her own off of a spectacular drive to the basket.
- Following the Wildcats basket, the River Hawks went on a 13-0 run until Bella Stuart (Clifton Park, N.Y.) ended the drought, making the score 18-4 in favor of UML.
- The Wildcats attempted to battle back in the second scoring with a higher frequency than they had in the first.
- The River Hawks did not let up on the gas going up by 27 points at one point in the quarter.
- In the final two minutes of the quarter, the 'Cats scored back-to-back baskets to assist in UNH beginning to mount a comeback in the second half.
- As the second half began the Wildcats began to shift the tide of the game going on a 10-2 in the opening minutes of the quarter
- The Wildcats continued to outscore the River Hawks for the remainder of the third with a spectacular full-court press that resulted in multiple steals and conversions.
- With under a minute remaining in the third, O'Connor scored back-to-back threes bringing the River Hawk's lead down to just nine.
- UML regained their composure in the fourth quarter going on a 15-2 run, extending their lead back to 23.
- Following this, the 'Cats and River Hawks continued to trade baskets, but UML ultimately came out on top.
- The Wildcats scored 24 points in the third quarter, almost doubling that of the previous half.
