The Wildcats Secure First Conference Win Over NJIT

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball won their first America East conference game over the NJIT Highlanders. The Wildcats won the match-up 56-50.

FIRST QUARTER:
- The Wildcats scored the first basket of the game when Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) cut to the hoop for a layup, assisted by Bella Stuart (Clifton Park, N.Y.).
- After trailing by one with just over three minutes to go, Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) sunk a three to give the Wildcats the lead back.
- The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run for about four minutes.
- Five different Wildcats scored in this quarter: Stuart, Eliasson, Cavanaugh, Breezie Williams (Canton, Ohio), and Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain).
- Adara Groman (Scituate, Mass.) and Stuart stole the ball twice in a row to stop NJIT from beating their press.
- NJIT brought the Wildcats' lead down to three, but Groman scored a long two-pointer to bring it up.
- UNH out rebounded NJIT 11-8 in the second quarter.
- Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) scored the first points of the half off a jumper in the painter.
- With under nine minutes in the half, the Wildcats forced a ten-second call on Highlanders in the back court.
- While NJIT brought UNH's lead down, Williams hit a floater to secure the lead.
- Williams grabbed an offensive rebound off a foul shot, then scored a three with 2:50 left.
- NJIT drove to the basket and scored but Stuart forced the charge.
- As NJIT was on a breakaway Williams deflected the ball out of their hands and Eliasson saved the ball from going out of bounds.
- With a tie game, Cavanaugh drained a three to give the Wildcats their lead back.
- Stuart took her second charge of the game with 3:35 left in the quarter.
- Cavanaugh drove into the basket then passed to Eliasson on the baseline who scored from there. This gave UNH a four-point lead with about 40 seconds left.
- Stuart hit both of her foul shots with 19 seconds left.
- Cavanaugh stole the ball from the Highlanders and then was fouled, resulting in her scoring both of her shots.
- UNH leads NJIT all time 7-4.
- UNH out rebounded NJIT 37-35.
- Cavanaugh led the Wildcats in points with 13.
