Wildcats fall to Bulldogs in Hard-Fought Game

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell in a hard-fought game against the Bryant University Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 13.

FIRST QUARTER:
- The Wildcats started off hot, going on a 9-2 run in the first few minutes of the game.
- The Bulldogs battled back going up by one with 3:37 left in the quarter.
- The Wildcats got the edge once again thanks to a series of points in the paint.
- Sophomore guard Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass.) scored the final points of the quarter with a big three, putting the 'Cats up by five.
- Junior guard Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) scored the opening basket of the quarter giving the Wildcats a seven-point lead.
- The Bulldogs didn't let off the gas, once again battling back and going up by one with 4:30 remaining in the half.
- The Wildcats kept their composure and ended the half with a slight edge over the Bulldogs thanks to a buzzer-beater by senior guard Adara Groman (Scituate, Mass.)
- Kemari Reynolds of Bryant scored the opening points of the quarter cutting the UNH lead to just one basket.
- Groman responded quickly with a basket of her own.
- The Wildcats scored a series of baskets to further extend their lead. Senior guard Bella Stuart (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored a three-pointer giving the 'Cats a nine-point lead.
- The Bulldogs rallied once again cutting the UNH lead down to just two going into the fourth quarter.
- The final quarter started off very close. Much like the rest of the game, neither team was able to take a decisive lead.
- Halfway through the quarter, the Bulldogs went on a small run giving them their biggest lead of the half with five points.
- The Wildcats were able to tie up the game with just 36 seconds remaining thanks to a jumper from sophomore guard Breezie Williams (Canton, Ohio)
- The Bulldogs once again were able to take a one-point lead with a made foul shot.
- The 'Cats were unable to score in the remaining seconds of the game and the Bulldogs took the game by one.
- UNH outscored Bryant on turnovers 20-13.
- The Wildcats lead in points scored in the paint 30-20 over the Bulldogs.
- UNH also led in second-chance points 10-5.
