Kaufmann Leads Balanced Attack in 3-0 Win vs. Holy Cross

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior captain Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) led a balanced attack with eight kills in the University of New Hampshire volleyball team's 3-0 victory against College of the Holy Cross in Friday's opening match of the Harvard Invitational at Malkin Athletic Center.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-16.
Kaufmann recorded eight kills and did not have a hitting error on 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage. She also recorded a pair of block assists to finish with nine points.
Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) and Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) finished with five kills apiece. Camryn Honn (Overland Park, Kan.) and Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) both tallied 14 assists to co-direct the Wildcats to a .200 hitting percentage. Shattles also had two service aces and six digs; Honn finished with one ace and five digs. Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey) recorded a team-high 10 digs.
UNH extended its winning streak to three matches to improve to 3-1. Holy Cross is now 1-3,

- UNH concludes Day 2 of the Harvard Invitational on Sept. 2 with matches against Harvard (1 p.m.) and Stonehill College (4 p.m.).

SET 1
- UNH won seven consecutive points to build an 8-3 lead. Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) fueled the run with back-to-back-to-back service aces.
- The Crusaders inched within 11-8 but the 'Cats answered with a 3-0 spurt to extend the advantage to 14-8.
- The teams exchanged three-point runs as the score advanced to 18-15.
- With UNH leading 21-17, a kill by Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) was followed by an ace from Shattles and kill by Kriendler to push UNH to game point, 24-17.
- One point later, Kriendler ended Set 1 at 25-18.
SET 2
- Holy Cross built a 4-0 lead but it was quickly erased with a 4-0 run by UNH that included two Karabulut aces.
- Trailing 6-4, the Wildcats won five of the next six points to take a 9-7 lead.
- After falling behind 13-9, the Crusaders responded with a 5-1 spurt to tie the score, 14-14, and went on to go back ahead, 17-16.
- The score was knotted at 17, 18, 19, 20 and then 22 before the 'Cats closed out the set with three consecutive points, the last two of which were kills by Kaufmann and Kriendler.
SET 3
- New Hampshire took a 4-1 lead and extended the advantage to 10-4 behind three kills from Grove.
- The Crusaders never got closer than four points the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH finished with a .200 hitting percentage and limited Holy Cross to a .034 mark.
- The Wildcats recorded six team blocks and HC had four.
- Both teams tallied 49 digs.
- The 'Cats had a 10-9 edge in service aces.
