Wildcats Drop Pair of Matches on Final Day of Villanova Classic

UNH fell to Lafayette (3-0) and host Villanova (3-2)
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Villanova Classic at Jake Nevin Field House on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats fall to 4-3 overall on the season with the two losses.
In the late match, the 'Cats took host Villanova to five sets. The set scores were 17-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22 and 20-22.
Freshman right side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) notched a career and team-high 11 kills, along with a .474 hitting percentage for the Wildcats. Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.), Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) and Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) each chipped in with nine kills apiece in the losing effort. Armer was UNH's lone selection to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament Team, posting 24 kills in three matches in the tournament.
Freshman libero Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) notched a career-high 19 kills with a 93.2% mark on serve receive.
UNH notched a team-high 15 kills in its win in Set 2 and hit over .300 clip in the fourth and fifth stanzas.
In the early matchup, UNH was bested by Lafayette, 3-0. The set scores were 24-26, 21-25 and 19-25.
Junior outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) totaled a match-high 13 kills and a .344 hitting percentage in the loss for UNH. Armer also added eight kills with a .273 hitting percentage. Junior libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) registered 12 digs.
The 'Cats opened the match with a team-best 18 kills and a .432 hitting percentage in the first frame.
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, September 7 at home against Holy Cross. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
