Wildcats take down Holy Cross, 3-1 at home on Wednesday night

Freshman Millie Grove notched a career-high 10 kills with a .320 hitting percentage in the victory
DURHAM, N.H. -- Freshman outside hitter Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) notched a career-high 10 kills to pace the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Holy Cross at home on Wednesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 21-25, 25-10, 25-19 and 25-20.
The Wildcats improve their overall record to 5-3 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 1-7 overall. UNH has now won 11 straight matches vs. Holy Cross in the series, dating back to the 2007 season.
Grove notched an impressive .320 hitting percentage for the match, which included three kills in the opening stanza and four kills in the third frame. Grove also added five digs and was a perfect 27-for-27 on serve receive.
Junior middle blocker Gabby Smith (Carmel, Ind.) added nine kills with a .600 hitting percentage, which included the matching-clinching kill in the fourth frame. Freshman Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) added seven kills, while rookie Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) chipped in with six kills and five total blocks.
Freshman libero Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) totaled a career-high 22 digs in a strong defensive outing on the back line for the 'Cats.
Overall, the Wildcats hit at a .333 clip as a team, which included a .409 hitting percentage in the second set and a .333 hitting percentage in sets three and four. After losing the first set, UNH got out to a commanding 12-4 lead in the second and never looked back.
Holy Cross' Abbie Lane notched a match-high 13 kills in the losing effort, while Gracyn Benck totaled 12 kills for the Crusaders.
UNH returns to action on Friday, September 9 against Tennessee in the opening match of the Rocky Top Classic in Knoxville. Match time from Thompson-Boling Arena is 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network +.
