Wildcats sweep both matches on final day of George Mason Invitational

UNH swept Morgan State in the early match and UMES in the late match
FAIRFAX, Va. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team earned a pair of victories against Morgan State and UMES on Saturday in the final day of the George Mason Invitational at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
The Wildcats improve to 9-5 overall on the season, which included a 3-0 weekend at the tournament. Morgan State dropped to 1-12 overall, while UMES fell to a mark of 2-8.
"This is definitely a unique moment for our program and a tremendous accomplishment, it's not easy winning matches on the road," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "They were exceptional this weekend and I am excited to see if we can harness the positive work we did, as we head into conference play."
In the late match, UNH earned a 3-0 victory against UMES. The set scores were 25-11, 25-20 and 25-21.
Junior outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) totaled a match-high 10 kills, a .308 hitting percentage and 10 digs in UNH's victory to pace the Wildcat offense. Freshman Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) added seven kills, while junior middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) each added five kills apiece, which included a .417 and .571 hitting percentage, respectively.
Serbousek was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and she was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Kriendler.
UNH hit at a .318 clip in the opening frame with nine kills and followed that up with 11 kills and a .303 hitting percentage in the second stanza.
In the early match against Morgan State, the 'Cats swept the Bears, 3-0. The set scores were 28-26, 25-20 and 25-8.
Serbousek amassed a match-high 12 kills with a .346 hitting percentage, to go along with eight digs in the victory vs. the Bears. Kriendler added eight kills in the opening match of the day, while sophomore right side hitter Marisa Armer (Brandeton, Fla.) added six kills. Junior libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) recorded a match-high 14 digs in a strong defensive performance.
The 'Cats notched 15 kills in the opening frame and then added a .409 hitting percentage with 11 kills in the third frame.
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, September 21 at Merrimack. Match time from Hammel Court in North Andover, Mass. is 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
