Wildcats take down George Mason in five sets in tournament opener

Lindsey Kriendler notched a career-high 12 kills in UNH's seventh win of the season
FAIRFAX, Va. -- Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) notched a career-high 12 kills to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-2 road victory at George Mason on Friday night at the Recreation Athletic Complex in the opening match of the George Mason Invitational. The set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 14-25, 25-15 and 15-11.
The Wildcats improve to 7-5 overall on the season, while the Patriots fall to 2-7.
Sophomore right side Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman middle blocker Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) added nine kills apiece in the Wildcats' victory. Oxenknect hit at a .471 clip with five total blocks.
Junior outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) tallied seven kills and 10 digs for UNH, which included the set-clinching kill in the final frame to give the 'Cats the victory.
Junior setter Camryn Honn (Overland Park, Kansas) totaled 23 assists and seven digs running the Wildcats' offense, while freshman libero Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) amassed a team-high 16 digs and a 94% on serve receive, in another strong defensive outing.
The 'Cats notched 14 kills with a .351 hitting percentage in the opening frame and followed that up with 12 kills and a .346 clip in the second stanza.
Yanira Lopez-Barahona totaled a team-high 12 kills, while Stephanie Der recorded a match-high 19 digs in the loss for George Mason.
UNH returns to action in the final day of play in the George Mason Invitational on Saturday, September 17 with a 11am match against Morgan State and a 3:30 pm match against Maryland-Eastern Shore.
