Wildcats split matches on final day of Rocky Top Classic

UNH lost 3-0 to The Citadel in the first match and swept Norfolk State in the second
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team split a pair of matches in the final day of play at the Rocky Top Classic on Saturday from Thompson-Boling Arena, hosted by the University of Tennessee.
The Wildcats now own a 6-5 overall record after the split, while Norfolk State dropped 0-7 on the year. The Citadel owned a 4-4 overall mark after its victory.
"Our ball control was much better in the second match," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "We were more in rhythm, which allowed more consistent play."
In the late match, UNH swept Norfolk State in straight sets. The set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 25-16.
Freshman Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) totaled a team-high eight kills in the victory for the Wildcats, to go along with 10 digs and a perfect 17-for-17 on serve receive. Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas), Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) and Gabby Smith (Carmel, Ind.) each notched seven kills apiece for UNH. Oxenknecht added an impressive .417 hitting percentage and six total blocks in the win.
Freshman libero Katherine Kouba (Iowa City, Iowa) amassed a career-high 19 digs, while senior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) recorded 30 assists, quarterbacking the 'Cats offense.
In the early match, the 'Cats got swept by The Citadel. The set scores were 13-25, 12-25, 23-25.
Oxenknecht and Smith each added six kills apiece in the losing effort, while sophomore right side Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) added five kills. Macaulay added a team-high eight digs in the loss in the early match.
UNH returns to action on Friday, September 16 at George Mason. Match time from the Recreation Athletic Complex is 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
