Wildcats to take on UConn at the Whitt on Saturday.
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Mac Welsher scored three goals for the Warriors as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Merrimack, 5-2, on Friday night at Lawler Rink in Hockey East action.
The Wildcats fall to 12-12-1 (6-9-1 Hockey East), while the Warriors improve to 13-11-1 (8-8-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore defensemen Luke Reid (Warman, Saskatchewan) took a cross ice pass from Junior defensemen Kalle Eriksson (Leksand, Sweeden) and buried the puck low glove side at 18:46 of the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Senior forward Tyler Ward (Kamloops, British Columbia) also posted an assist on the goal.
- Alex Jefferies tied the game up at 1-1 at 3:18 in the second period with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Robinson short side while on the power play.
- Mac Welsher gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead just 38 seconds later as he finished home a glove side shot at 3:56 in the second period.
- Welsher extended the Warriors lead to 3-1 as he scored low blocker side from a shot in front of the net at 13:48 of the second period.
- Freshman forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) cut the Merrimack lead down to 3-2 at 17:32 of the second period as he roofed a shot glove side high on a five minute major power play. Senior forward Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) and Ward posted assists on the goal.
- Zach Vinnell's shot from the point deflected off of a defender and trickled by Robinson to extend the Merrimack lead to 4-2 at 2:22 of the third period.
- Welsher posted the hat-trick with an empty net goal from the defensive zone at 19:26 of the third period for the 5-2 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made 19 saves and is 10-8-0 this season, while Zachary Borgiel posted 22 saves for the Warriors.
- UNH and Merrimack were even on shots with 24.
- The Wildcats went 1-6 on the power play and the Warriors went 2-5.
