Wildcats return to the Whitt versus No. 16 UMass Lowell on Friday, March 4
DURHAM, N.H. – Liam Walsh notched three points on a goal and two assists for the Warriors as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Merrimack, 4-3, on Saturday at the Whittemore Center.
The Wildcats fall to 14-16-1 (8-13-1 Hockey East), while the Warriors improve to 18-12-1 (13-9-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) broke the ice at 11:05 of the first period when he caught a pass in the slot, danced around a Merrimack defender, and picked the corner with a wrister high glove side on Borgiel. Freshman forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) each posted an assist on the goal.
- Filip Forsmark evened the score with 33.8 seconds left in the period with a shot off a face-off glove side past senior goaltender Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.). Walsh posted an assist.
- Merrimack took the lead at 6:52 of the second period when Christian Felton caught a pass in the left circle and fired a shot past Robinson.
- Brar increased Merrimack's lead on a wraparound attempt at 2:53 of the third period.
- Walsh made it 4-1 Merrimack with a one-timer from the right circle at 4:13.
- Pierson cut the lead in half while shorthanded at 12:15 after cleaning up a rebound from on top of the crease. Senior defenseman Ryan Verrier (Reading, Mass.) and freshman forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) recorded assists.
- Cronin pulled the Wildcats within one goal with 2:14 left in the third period when he found a loose puck just outside the crease and roofed a shot top shelf while Robinson was at the bench for the extra skater. Senior forward Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore defenseman Luke Reid (Warman, Saskatchewan) posted assists on the score.
- The Wildcats were unable to score the equalizer for the 4-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robinson made 23 saves, while Zachary Borgiel posted 25 saves for the Warriors.
- UNH outshot Merrimack by a 28-27 margin.
- The Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play and the Warriors finished 1-4.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Huard's goal was good for his sixth of the season, leading all Wildcat defenseman.
- Pierson's shorthanded goal was the first shorthanded goal scored by UNH this season.
- Pierson now has 22 multi-points for his career.
