Men’s Hockey Falls to #16 UMass Lowell, 6-3

Wildcats to conclude regular season at UML on Saturday.
DURHAM, N.H. – Andre Lee found the back of the net twice, including the game-winning goal as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 16 UMass Lowell, 6-3, on Friday at the Whittemore Center on Senior Night in the home season finale.
The Wildcats fall to 14-17-1 (8-14-1 Hockey East), while the River Hawks improve to 19-9-3 (14-8-1 Hockey East).
Three different Wildcat skaters found the back of the net.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lee put the River Hawks up 1-0 at 4:10 into the first period after he wristed a shot to the back of the net from the left circle. Carl Berglund and Brian Chambers recorded assists on the goal.
- Junior forward Chase Stevenson (West Kelowna, British Columbia) tied the game for the Wildcats at 7:51 of first period when his shot from left circle snuck through Owen Savory's arm and trickled over the goal line. Sophomore defenseman Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.) and senior forward Joseph Cipollone (Purchase, N.Y.) posted assists on the goal.
- Blake Wells scored to give UMass Lowell a 2-1 lead at 16:23 of the first period after he backhanded a shot past senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) on the breakaway.
- Reid Stefanson increased the River Hawks lead to 3-1 on the power play at 8:55 of the second period when he wristed a shot from the right point high blocker side.
- Freshman forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) responded for the Wildcats at 16:03 of the second period on a wrister from the slot that went blocker side off the post and past Savory. Freshman forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) recorded the assist on the goal.
- Lee made it 4-2 River Hawks with 13:00 left in the third period when he roofed a backhanded shot on the breakaway.
- The Wildcats cut the lead in half just 27 seconds later when Jenson wristed a shot through traffic from the point that senior forward Tyler Ward (Kamloops, British Columbia) tipped past Savory. Freshman forward Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.) was also credited with an assist.
- Lucas Condotta made it 5-3 River Hawks with 9:23 left in the third period on a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush.
- Marek Korencik scored an empty net goal the length of the ice with 53 seconds left in the game for the 6-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robinson made 26 saves, while Savory posted 27 saves. UNH sophomore goalie Rafe Gaughan (Somersworth, N.H.) made one save entering the game late in the third period for his collegiate debut.
- UMass Lowell outshot UNH by a 33-30 margin.
- The Wildcats went 0-4 on the power play and the River Hawks finished 1-3.
