Cafarelli and Ward each post three points
ORONO, Maine – Lynden Breen scored two goals for the Black Bears as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Maine, 6-3, on Friday night at Alfond Arena.
The Wildcats fall to 13-15-1 (7-12-1 HE) and the Black Bears improve to 6-17-4 (4-13-2 HE).
Sophomore forward Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.) and senior forward Tyler Ward (Kamloops, British Columbia) each posted one goal and two assists for three points for the Wildcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 42 seconds after the opening faceoff, Lynden Breen sent a backhander to the back of the net as the Black Bears took the early 1-0 lead.
- At 5:49 of the first period, Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup found the back of the net for 2-0 Maine advantage.
- Maine made it a 3-0 contest when Adam Dawe scored on a breakaway at 14:34 of the first period, and then A.J. Drobot knocked in the puck from in front of the net to give the Black Bears a 4-0 lead at 16:16 of the first.
- The Wildcats cut the Maine lead to 4-1 at 9:05 of the second period as Cafarelli sent a pass from behind the net to senior forward Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) who fired a one-timer for his sixth goal of the season. Ward also posted an assist on the goal.
- After Breen netted his second goal of the game, Cafarelli blasted a shot from right in front of the net to the back of the goal to cut the deficit to 5-2 at 14:34. The goal was his second of the season.
- After the Wildcats went on a five-minute major power play, Ben Poisson stole the puck in the UNH zone and sent it to the corner of the net for the 6-2 lead at 18:15.
- Ward made the score 6-3 when he found the back of the net glove side on the power play at 1:30 of the third period. Cafarelli and Engarås posted assists on the score.
- The Wildcats were unable to score again for the 6-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior goaltender Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) allowed four goals and made 12 saves, while junior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) posted 11 saves and allowed two goals. Victor Ostman tallied 30 saves for the Black Bears.
- UNH outshot Maine by a 33-29 margin.
- The Wildcats went 1-6 on the power play and the Black Bears went 0-6.
