Harnett Makes 21 Saves in 1-0 Loss to #14 UConn

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior goaltender Nicky Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) made 21 saves, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team fell 1-0 to 14th-ranked University of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.
Megan Warrener stopped all 27 shots on goal, including 12 in the second period, and Claire Petersen scored the only goal of the game at 11:29 of the middle stanza.
The Wildcats fall to 6-14-0 overall and 5-11-0 in Hockey East while the Huskies move to 12-8-2, 7-7-2.

FIRST PERIOD
- Peterson score with 8:34 left in the period to give UConn a 1-0 lead when her shot from the left point went in the bottom left corner of the net. Brooke Campbell, who won the faceoff back to Peterson, set up the tally.
SECOND PERIOD
- UConn went on the first power play of the game at 5:43 and Harnett made three saves to keep the Wildcats within one goal.
- At the end of the period, UConn goalie Megan Warrener made 12 saves while Nicky Harnett made 10 to keep the Huskies in the lead.
THIRD PERIOD
- UConn kept the 1-0 lead with Warrener making 10 saves in the period.
- Tamara Thierus (Saint-Jerome, Quebec) won the race to the puck in the left circle, shifted around a defender a slipped a pass to the front of the goal, where Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) wristed a low shot gloved by Warrener.
- UConn's Jada Habisch had a breakaway down the slot with three minutes to play, but Harnett made a right leg-pad save, stood back up and shouldered down Habisch's shot off the rebound at the left post to keep the score 1-0.
- UNH pulled Harnett in favor of an extra skater with 1:24 remaining and sustained pressure in the offensive zone, but Warrener saved the only shot in the final minute to preserve the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH finished with a 27-22 shot advantage and 23-21 edge in faceoffs.
- The Huskies went 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Wildcats did not have a power play opportunity.
- UNH blocked eight shot attempts and the Huskies had 12 blocks.

- Harnett saved 49 of 50 shots for a .980 save percentage against UConn for the weekend to increase her season save percentage to .921.
- Gabby Jones (Westfield, Mass.) led the 'Cats with eight faceoff wins.
