PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman defenseman Damien Carfagna (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) scored for the Wildcats but the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 13 Providence, 3-1, on Saturday evening at Schneider Arena in Hockey East action.
The Wildcats fall to 3-4-1 (0-4-1 Hockey East), while the Friars move to 4-2-1 (2-0-1 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Friars took an early 1-0 lead when Craig Needham scored on a breakaway at 16:30 of the first period.
- Providence extended the advantage to 2-0 at 4:58 of the third period when Jaroslav Chmelar found the back of the net.
- The Wildcats cut the PC lead to 2-1 at 8:23 when Carfagna blasted a shot from the point for his second goal of the season. Sophomore forward Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and junior forward Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.) each posted an assist on the goal.
- But Chmelar scored an empty net goal with just 46.8 seconds remaining for the 3-1 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) made 30 saves for UNH, while Philip Svedeback tallied 23 saves for the Friars to earn the win.
- PC outshot UNH 33-24.
- Each team went 0-1 on the power play.
