Wildcats fall to UMBC at home on Sunday in five sets

Junior Kelly Kaufmann notched a team-high 11 kills in the losing effort for UNH on Sunday
DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell in five sets to UMBC on Sunday in America East play at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 15-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-21 and 15-17.
The Wildcats dropped their overall record to 14-9 (2-4 AE), while the Retrievers improve to 12-5 overall (5-0 AE).
Junior middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) totaled a team-high 11 kills, a .450 hitting percentage and seven total blocks in the losing effort. Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) added nine kills and nine digs, while sophomore right side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) added eight kills.
UNH was down 12-8 in the fourth set and came back to force a fifth set on a set-clinching kill from Kaufmann. The 'Cats were down 12-8 in the fifth stanza as well, but came just short after taking a 14-13 lead and then a 15-4 lead.
Junior outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) also tallied seven kills with 12 digs.
Junior libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) added 22 digs in another strong defensive outing, while freshman defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) amassed 11 digs.
Kamani Conteh notched a match-high 15 kills in the victory for UMBC.
The 'Cats hit a team-best .250 in the fifth and final frame with 10 kills.
UNH returns to action on Sunday, October 30 against Bryant. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv.
