Men’s Hockey Falls to UConn, 3-2, In Overtime

HARTFORD, Conn. – Jonny Evans scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Huskies as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to UConn, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the XL Center in Hockey East action. The Wildcats earned one point in the Hockey East standings and took four of the six in the two-game series as UNH defeated UConn 3-1 on Friday.
The Wildcats are now 12-11-1 (6-8-1 Hockey East), while the Huskies improve to 10-10-0 (7-6-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At 17:10 of the first period, senior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) fired a one-timer from the slot to the back of the net off a pass from freshman defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Freshman forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) also posted an assist on the goal. The goal was Pierson's team-leading 11th of the season.
- The Huskies tied the contest at 1-1 at 2:41 of the second period when Marc Gatcomb sent a wrist shot from the blue line stick side.
- Sasha Teleguine gave the Huskies a 2-1 advantage when he scored on a backhander to the glove side off a rebound at 13:07 of the second period.
- The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 with 5:47 remaining in the third period when Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) who knocked it in glove side.
- Then with just 1:58 left in overtime Evans found the back of the net to give UConn two Hockey East points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made 37 saves and is 10-7-0 this season, while Darion Hanson posted 23 saves for the Huskies.
- UConn outshot UNH by a 40-25 margin.
