Wildcats fall to Rhode Island on Saturday, 3-1

Abby Sullivan totaled a team-high 12 kills in the losing effort for the Wilcats
DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team lost to Rhode Island, 3-1 in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 20-25, 25-23, 9-25 and 21-25.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 7-6 overall, while the Rams improve to 8-7 overall.
"While we didn't play our best match today we still battled," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. Â

Senior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) and sophomore Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) each notched a team-high 12 kills in the loss for the 'Cats, to go along with a .476 and .346 hitting percentage, respectively. Kaufmann also added a team-best five total blocks. Freshman right side Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) chipped in with nine kills, a .286 hitting percentage and three blocks.Â
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) ran the 'Cats offense with 39 assists and 13 digs in another strong effort, while her teammate, sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) led the way with 21 digs for the Wildcats' defense. Freshman outside hitter Shea Purcell (Shaker Heights, Ohio) added seven kills and nine digs.Â
The 'Cats amassed 13 kills in the first and second sets and 14 kills in the final frame.Â
Claire Wagner posted a match-high 17 kills in the win for Rhode Island.
UNH returns to action for the America East opener on Sunday, September 26th against Hartford. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m on AmericaEast.tv.
