Wildcat alumnus to lead business affairs/revenue generation for UNH Athletics
DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire director of athletics Marty Scarano announced Monday the hire of alumnus Brad Brown '09 as UNH's deputy athletic director. Brown brings more than 13 years of sport management and college athletics experience to his alma mater.
"We are very much looking forward to Brad joining our team. He brings a breadth of experience and will add significant value to both athletics and the university community," Scarano said. "Most importantly, he has a dynamic, engaging, yet humble personality that impressed everyone he met during the interview process. Brad is a well-respected young leader in our industry who is on a great career trajectory toward becoming a future athletics director."
Brown returns to Durham after spending the last 11 years at Army West Point, most recently as the senior associate athletic director for internal operations. In that role, he was a member of the athletic department's senior leadership team and was responsible for event and facility management, capital project initiatives, NCAA and conference championships, team support, strategic planning, summer sports camps, and served as the sport administrator for five athletics programs. Brown held oversight of the department's procurement operation and executed agreements worth more than $7.4 million over the last two years. He was instrumental in coordinating fundraising and ticket sales efforts, generating record-setting revenue over the last three years. Additionally, he negotiated and facilitated strategic, department-wide partnerships and was a key member of the Michie Stadium Preservation Project, which is currently valued at $95 million. A member of the steering committee, Brown spearheaded the operations efforts for the annual Army-Navy game during his tenure at West Point.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next deputy athletic director at the University of New Hampshire," Brown said. "I'd like to thank Marty Scarano and the entire search committee for the opportunity to contribute to the strong and energetic culture at my alma mater. I look forward to working with our elite coaches, dedicated staff, talented student-athletes, university officials, loyal alumni and fans as we continue to build on the proud athletic history forged at UNH."
In his new role, Brown will serve on Scarano's senior management team with significant duties in on- and off-campus relations, long-term strategy and planning, and department administration, including athletic program oversight. He will work directly with senior leadership to manage and execute the business activities of the department, as well as driving its priorities of student-athlete welfare, facilities enhancements, revenue growth and fan engagement. Brown will provide direct oversight to supervisors in external relations, which includes business development, marketing, communications and broadcast/video productions.
Brown has spent most of his career at the United States Military Academy. He was hired as the director of team operations in 2010, advanced to assistant athletic director of operations (2014) before being elevated to associate athletic director for internal operations (2018) and then promoted to senior associate A.D. for internal operations (2019).
"UNH has hired an absolute game-changer. Brad is a selfless leader who has an innate ability to build cohesive teams and provide consistent direction," said Mike Buddie, Army West Point director of athletics. "He has exceeded expectations in every facet of his leadership role at West Point and will undoubtedly do the same at his alma mater. It is thrilling to see a young, talented administrator like Brad get this opportunity to help advance UNH athletics."
Brown graduated from UNH's then Whittemore School of Business and Economics (now Peter T. Paul College) in 2009 with a degree in Business Administration, Information Systems. He earned his Master of Sports Leadership degree from Northeastern University in 2018.
