Wildcats Conclude Season with 49-43 Loss at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Freshman Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the Wildcats with 13 points but the No. 5 seed University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to No. 4 seed UAlbany, 49-43, Sunday afternoon at SEFCU Arena in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Hercules Tires America East Championship.
The Wildcats conclude the season with a 5-15 overall record (5-11 America East), while the Great Danes improve to 7-10 overall (5-7 America East) and advance to play No. 1 seed Maine in the semifinals.
Senior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) contributed with 10 points for the Wildcats, while Helene Haegerstrand led UAlbany with 12 points.
UNH grabbed 27 rebounds and shot 26.4 percent from the field, while UAlbany posted 36 rebounds and shot 34.6 percent.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- The Wildcats started the game on a 6-0 run. This run was led by Helena Delaruelle after a made 3-pointer and then she assisted on a made 3-pointer by Groman.
- After UNH's 6-0 run, the Great Danes scored 15 straight points to close out the first quarter with a 15-6 lead. On this run, Kyara Frames scored eight points and made two 3-pointers in two attempts.
Second Quarter
- Ellen Hahne scored four of Albany's 10 points this quarter.
- Albany outscored UNH 10-4 in the second quarter, leading 25-12 heading to the half.
Third Quarter
- Groman scored eight of the Wildcats' 17 points including grabbing two defensive rebounds and a steal in the third.
- UNH outscored Albany 17-8 in the third quarter and cut the lead to four. Albany led 33-29 heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Torres scored seven points for UNH in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats cut the deficit to one at 38-37 with 2:18 remaining.
- Albany outscored the Wildcats 11-6 to earn the 49-43 victory to advance to the semifinals.
