Juodikis Scores Twice in 6-3 Loss to Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) scored two goals but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 6-3 by the University of Vermont on Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.
Sophomore Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) scored the Wildcats' other goal and junior Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec)matched her career high of two assists.
Senior goalie and captain Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) recorded 28 saves. She also posted a higher save percentage (.848) than Vermont's Blanka Skodova, who posted (.800) with 12 saves and three goals allowed.
UNH drops to 6-9-2 overall and 4-8-1 in Hockey East while Vermont improves to 8-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in Hockey East.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH created a lot of breakaways and one-on-one chances but were unable to capitalize.
- Vermont capitalized on a power play at 12:50 to make it a 1-0 game. Kristina Shanahan scored the goal and was assisted by Natalie Mlynkova
- The Wildcats responded at 17:20 with a stellar play by Juodikis, who got in a one-on-one against Skodova and shot the puck between the legs for the tying goal. Thierus was credited with the assist.
- UNH ended the first period with 1:03 remaining on a power play.
SECOND PERIOD
- Vermont's Maude Poulin-Labelle put it in the net for a 2-1 lead at 4:33 when a collision into Boutilier left the net open.
- UNH immediately responded at 4:59 as Juodikis scored her second goal of the game unassisted to level the score at 2-2.
- UNH's defense and ability to penalty kill kept the game even as Vermont was unsuccessful on its power play.
- UVM's Lily Murphy got the puck on a breakaway and got her own deflection off Boutilier and deposited the puck in the net for the 3-2 lead at 12:17.
- Vermont scored again less than a minute later -- at 13:14 – on a goal by Maddy Skelton in the top right corner to give them a two-goal lead.
THIRD PERIOD
- UNH killed another power play to make the Catamounts 1-for-4 with the skater advantage.
- At 9:06, Kelly shot the puck into the top-right corner for a UNH goal. She was assisted by sophomore Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) and junior Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) to lift the Wildcats within 4-3.
- A scrum at the front of the net led to Theresa Schafzahl lifting the puck in the top of the net to extend the advantage to 5-3 at10:23 .
- At 18:35, Kristina Shanahan scored an empty-net goal after a pass from Poulin-Labelle .
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Vermont controlled the shots with 34 in comparison to UNH's 15.
- UNH blocked eight shots and the Catamounts had four blocks.
- UMV has a 25-19 edge in the faceoff circle.
- Vermont went 1-for-4 on the power play and UNH was 0-for-1.
