Silver Racks Up 4 Sacks for the Defense
KINGSTON, R.I. – Freshman defensive end Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) collected a whopping four sacks to lead the defense, but the University of New Hampshire football team lost 28-3 to Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon in Meade Stadium.
The Wildcats dropped to 3-7 overall with their seventh consecutive loss. They are 2-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association,
UNH closes out the season against Maine with a Senior Day Border Battle game for the Brice-Cowell Musket next Saturday in Wildcat Stadium at 1 p.m. The game is presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.

Rhode Island improved to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the CAA. The Rams are making a push for their first appearance in the FCS playoffs since 1985 and finish up at Elon on Saturday.
Two of Silver's sacks resulted in Rhode Island fumbles. Grad student Duval Paul (Lynn, Mass.) recovered the first and sophomore linebacker Oleh Manzyk (Feasterville, Pa.) had the other.
It was the second straight game that Silver forced a pair of fumbles. He's up to 10.5 sacks for the season. Silver led the Wildcats in tackles with 11.
Sophomore quarterback Bret Edwards (Lowell, Mass.) completed 10 of his 16 passes for 85 yards. He left the game late in the third quarter with an injury. Junior Tommy Herion (Chicago, Ill.) came on in relief of Edwards and completed five of his 15 passes for 50 yards with an interception.
Junior receiver Brian Espanet (Hopedale, Mass.) led the Wildcats with six receptions for 69 yards.
Rhode Island junior Kasim Hill competed 12 of 23 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman Jaylen Smith caught two of the TD passes. He had three catches for 88 yards.

1st QUARTER
- Hill teamed with Smith for an 81-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game.
- C.J. Carrick kicked the conversion for 7-0.
- A 21-yard field goal by Sean Lehane (Milford, Mass.) cut the lead to 7-3 with 4:52 left in the quarter.
2ND QUARTER
- The Rams pushed their lead to 14-3 on a 6-yard pass from Hill to Matt Pires with 1:38 left in the half.
- After URI forced a punt, the offense drove and threatened.
- The Wildcat defense held after the Rams had a first down on the 6-yard line.
- Carrick missed a 24-yard field goal wide as the half ended.
3RD QUARTER
- Smith scored his second TD on a 2-yard pass from Hill with 10:06 left in the quarter for 21-3.
- Herion entered the game midway through the period when Edwards was shaken up after scrambling and being tackled.
- Dylan Brown was called for unnecessary roughness on the play.
4th QUARTER
- Ivory Frimpong caught a 20-yard pass from Hill for the final score with 5:41 to go.
- The two Silver sacks that caused fumbles came in the fourth quarter on consecutive Rhode Island possessions.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.) carried eight times for 23 yards.
- Laube had missed the last two games with an injury.
- Sophomore linebacker Bryce Shaw (Raynham, Mass.) and redshirt freshman linebacker Ryan Toscano (Bedford, N.H.) each had six tackles.
- Shaw also had a quarterback sack.
- UNH was called for 11 penalties for 92 yards.
- URI had seven penalties for 65.
- The Wildcats had 159 yards of total offense.
