Wildcats Defeat Vermont, 2-1

David Fessenden tallied 25 saves to earn the win.
DURHAM, N.H. – Seniors Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) and Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) each scored a goal, while junior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) made 25 saves as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated Vermont, 2-1, on Friday night at The Whittemore Center.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-6-0 (2-4-0 Hockey East), while the Catamounts fall to 1-6-0 (1-2-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At 12:24 of the first period junior Harrison Blaisdell (Regina, Saskatchewan) controlled a loose puck right at the crease and sent a pass to Engarås who buried the puck stick side to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead on the power play. Freshman Will Margel (Potomac, Md.) also posted an assist on the goal.
- At 15:12 of the second period, Pierson scored on a penalty shot as he maneuvered around Vermont goalie Tyler Harmon and was able to sneak the puck to the bottom stick side corner to give UNH a 2-0 lead.
- At 5:34 of the third period Simon Jellus of Vermont scored on a one timer into the upper stick side of the net to cut the lead to 2-1.
- With 1:51 remaining in the third period, the Catamounts went with an empty net but were unable to score the equalizer for the 2-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Fessenden made 25 saves to improve to 2-1-0 on the season, while Harmon posted 16 saves and is 0-5-0.
- Vermont outshot UNH by a 26-18 margin.
- The Wildcats went 1-2 on the power play and the Catamounts went 1-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- UNH is 4-2-0 at the Whittemore Center this season.
- The Wildcats have won three straight over the Catamounts and are 83-27-10 all-time versus Vermont.
