DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep of NJIT on Sunday afternoon in America East play at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-19.
UNH improved its overall record to 9-7 overall (2-1 AE), while the Highlanders dropped to 1-4 and 0-2 in America East.
"I thought today we replicated the same intensity and focus as we did vs. UMBC," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "The difference was we were consistent with positive play versus making errors at critical moments. I am very proud of our young group for a good win today and look forward to our continue growth throughout the season."
Senior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) and Ari Pola (Auckland, New Zealand) each tallied seven kills apiece in the victory. Pola hit at a .538 clip, while Bilyeu managed a .400 hitting percentage with a team best nine digs and was a perfect 18-for-18 on serve receive.
Sophomore Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) contributed six kills, including the set clincher in Set 1 with a .500 hitting percentage in the match.
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) totaled 23 assists in the match, while sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) added six digs and two service aces.
UNH as a team hit .355 in the opening stanza with 14 kills and followed that up with nine kills and a .412 hitting percentage in the second frame. The 'Cats notched a match-high 16 kills in the third and final set.
Ines Varela totaled a match-high nine kills in the losing effort for NJIT on Sunday.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, October, 8 with a road match at Stony Brook. Match time from Pritchard Gymnasium is 6 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv.
