STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell at Stony Brook in five sets in America East play on Friday night at Pritchard Gymnasium. The set scores were 21-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 11-15.
UNH fell to 9-8 overall (2-2 AE), while the Seawolves improved to 8-10 overall (2-2 AE).
Senior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) led the 'Cats offense with 11 kills and 10 digs in the losing effort and went 34-of-35 (.971) on serve receive. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) chipped in with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.
"I thought we did a tremendous job forcing a fifth set, after being down 0-2," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "We have to find a way to win matches like this, it's difficult to win on the road, but that's no excuse. We had all the momentum and just couldn't finish tonight."
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) quarterbacked UNH's offense with 39 assists, 14 digs and five kills. Sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) led the way for the 'Cats on defense once again with a team-best 20 digs and 21-of-21 on serve receive.
Freshman right side Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman middle blocker Nadia Goich (Homer Glen, Ill.) each added eight kills apiece, while Goich hit at an impresive .800 clip.
UNH hit at a .400 clip with 17 kills in its fourth stanza victory.
Leoni Kunz totaled a match-high 16 kills in the Seawolves' victory.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, October 10 against UMBC. Match time is 1 p.m. from the UMBC Events Center.
