Laube Runs for 75, 53-Yard TDs in Loss to Dartmouth

'Cats Fall in Granite Bowl Contest
DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore running back Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.) broke loose for a pair of long touchdown runs, but they weren't enough as the University of New Hampshire football team lost to Dartmouth College, 38-21, in front of a Family Weekend crowd of 15,394 on Saturday in Wildcat Stadium.
The No. 23 Wildcats lost their third straight game and are 3-3 overall. They are 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play and get back to league action with a game at Elon next Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m.
UNH return to Wildcat Stadium to face Richmond on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. for Halloweekend.

Dartmouth improved to 5-0 overall and collected the Granite Bowl trophy awarded to the winner of the contest. The Big Green is 2-0 in the Ivy League and plays Columbia at home on Friday night at 6 p.m.
Laube scored on a 75-yard run early in the second period and then added a 53-yard TD midway through the third period to spark a Wildcat rally. Both touchdowns were longer than his previous career long run of 50 yards and it was his first game with a pair of rushing scores.
Laube carried six times for 139 yards in the game. The Wildcats had a season high 197 rushing yards in the game and 361 yards of total offense.
Junior Carlos Washington, Jr. (Fort Washington, Md.) teamed with junior Sean Coyne (Portsmouth. R.I.) for a 48-yard touchdown on a halfback option for the other UNH score. That one cut Dartmouth's lead to 31-21 with 3:42 left in the third period.
Dartmouth bumped the margin back to 38-21 with quarterback Nick Howard's third 6-yard touchdown run of the game with 8:41 left in the fourth period.
Dartmouth had 280 yards rushing and 634 total yards of offense.
The Big Green alternate quarterbacks and Howard carried 18 times for 131 yards and the three scores. Derek Kyler completed 20 of his 25 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns.
Redshirt freshman safety Noah Stansbury (Orange, N.J.) led UNH with 12 tackles and redshirt freshman linebacker Ryan Toscano (Bedford, N.H.) had 11.

1st QUARTER
- Dartmouth opened the game with a scoring drive that ended with a 6-yard run by Howard with 9:43 left in the period.
- Connor Davis kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead.
- UNH drove the length of the field on its first possession, but the Dartmouth defense made a goal line stop at the 1-yard line.
2ND QUARTER
- Howard ran for another 6-yard score with 11:20 left in the period and it was 14-0.
- Laube answered that with the 75-yard TD run on UNH's next play.
- Sean Lehane (Milford, Mass.) kicked the conversion for 14-7.
- Connor Davis made it 17-7 with a 51-yard field goal with 8:22 to go.
- John Pupel intercepted an Edwards pass to end UNH's next series.
- Dartmouth quarterback Derek Kyler hit Joe Kramer with a 13-yard scoring pass for 24-7 with 4:34 left in the half.
3RD QUARTER
- Kyler connected with Paxton Scott for a 52-yard TD pass and 31-7 lead with 9:54 left in the period.
- Laube responded with a 53-yard TD run and it was 31-14 with 8:09 to go.
- UNH cut it to 31-21 with 3:42 left in the period with a bit of trickery.
- Edwards passed back to Washington and he threw a halfback option pass to Coyne, who raced in for a 48-yard score.
- Lehane kicked his third extra point of the game.
4th QUARTER
- Howard had another 6-yard TD run, his third of the game, with 8:41 left in the period.
- Davis kicked the conversion for 38-21.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore quarterback Bret Edwards (Lowell, Mass.) completed 19 of his 29 passes for 116 yards with one interception.
- Laube finished with 208 all-purpose yards.
- Besides the 139 rushing yards he had five receiving yards and 64 yards on five kickoff returns.
- Washington, Jr.'s touchdown pass to Coyne was the first pass completion of his career.
- Freshman defensive end Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) had seven tackles and one of two quarterback sacks for the Wildcats.
- Junior defensive tackle Niko Kvietkus (Southington, Conn.) had the other sack.
- The win was Dartmouth's first in Durham since 1969 and first time the Big Green has had consecutive wins in the series since 1969 and 1972.
- Dartmouth won the last game between the teams in 2016 in Hanover, 22-21.
- The teams will play five more times in the next seven years, including in 2022 and 2023.
- UNH did not force a turnover. Dartmouth had one interception.
