Wildcats take down UAlbany in five sets

DURHAM, N.H. -- Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) and senior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) each registered a team-high 17 kills to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-2 victory against UAlbany in America East play on Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 23-25 and 15-9.
With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 10-9 overall (3-3 AE), while the Great Danes fall to 7-12 overall (3-2 AE) after the loss.
Sullivan finished the match with a .586 hitting percentage and five total blocks, while Serbousek added a .237 hitting percentage for the 'Cats, posting nine kills and a .400 hitting percentage in the opening set. Freshman right side Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) recorded 11 kills, hitting at a .348 clip with a team-high six blocks and four digs. Senior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) and sophomore outside hitter Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) each chipped in with nine kills in UNH's 10th win of the season. Bilyeu also totaled 15 digs and was 36-of-37 on serve receive (97%).
Bilyeu and Kaufmann's block in set five against UAlbany's Danielle Tedesco attack ended the match for the 'Cats.
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) amassed a career-high 57 assists running the Wildcats' offense, while sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) netted a career-high 28 digs and posted a perfect 22-of-22 on serve receive in another outstanding defensive effort for the 'Cats.
Freshman outside hitter Ashleigh Nicoll (Holly Springs, N.C.) totaled a career-high 10 digs for UNH
UNH as a team recorded 17 kills and a .273 hitting percentage in the opening set win and followed that up with 14 kills in each of the next three sets. The 'Cats hit .324 in set two, .290 in the third frame and .229 in the fourth. UNH notched eight kills and a .294 hitting percentage in the fifth and final stanza.
UAlbany's Oren Abutbul contributed a match-high 20 kills in the losing effort for the Great Danes.
UNH returns to action in non-conference play on Wednesday, October 20 against Merrimack. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 6 p.m. on ESPN3/ESPN+.
