Wildcats fall to UMBC on Friday, 3-1 in America East play

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell to UMBC, 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium in America East play to open up UNH's Homecoming Weekend. The set scores were 18-25, 25-19, 19-25, and 22-25.
With the loss, UNH falls to 8-7 on the year with a 1-1 record in conference play, while UMBC improves to 7-10 with a 2-0 record in conference play
"We were very pleased with our tenacity and drive to compete today," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "While we did a much better job and controlling errors, we still find ourselves making it more difficult than it needs to be on certain moments. If we can replicate the effort and drive for our match on Sunday the results should be positive."
Senior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass) with a team high 12 kills with a .290 hitting percentage for the Wildcats, while sophomore Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) led the way for the 'Cats with six blocks and nine kills. Sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) led the team with 23 digs. Senior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) chipped in with 10 kills in the losing effort.
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich) totaled 38 assists in the outing for the 'Cats in another strong performance quartebacking the UNH offense.
The 'Cats notched 15 kills and a .268 team hitting percentage in the win in the second stanza and also hit at a .222 clip and 13 kills in the fourth stanza.
Grace Rigsbee with a match-high 16 kills in the victory for UMBC.
UNH returns to action on Sunday, October 3rd against NJIT in America East. Match time is 1 p.m. from Lundholm Gymnasium on AmericaEast.tv.
