UNH to play at Providence on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 3:30 p.m. on NESN.
DURHAM, N.H. – Parker Ford tallied three points for the Friars as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 17 Providence, 5-1, at the Whittemore Center on Friday evening. Junior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season for UNH.
The Wildcats are now 3-9-2 (3-9-2 Hockey East), while the Friars move to 6-5-4 (6-5-4 Hockey East).

The first period went scoreless as Providence outshot UNH 12-8. The Friars went 0-2 on the power play, while the Wildcats went 0-1.
At 6:35 of the second, Pierson found the back of the net from a wrist shot in front of the crease to make the score 1-0. He scored off a rebound from a shot by freshman forward Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.), while junior forwardAngus Crookshank (Vancouver British Columbia) also recorded an assist.

Providence tied the contest 1-1 at 10:13 of the second when Jamie Engelbert sent a shot from the middle of the slot as the puck found the lower glove side corner of the net. Luke Johnson and Ford both added assists.
Each team took eight shots and went 0-1 on the man-advantage during the second period.
At 3:04 of the third period, Greg Printz stole the puck in the UNH zone and then found the back of the net on the lower glove side as the Friars took a 2-1 lead.
Providence increased its lead to 3-1 just 52 seconds later when Nick Poisson buried the puck from the face-off circle to the upper glove side. Patrick Moynihan and Michael Callahan tallied assists.
At 6:22, Ford found Davis Bunz in the slot where he blasted the puck to the lower stick side for his first career goal to make the score 4-1.
Moynihan capitalized on a power play at 18:16 with a shot from the faceoff circle for the 5-1 final score. Ford and Callahan both posted assists.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made 31 saves, while Jaxson Stauber had 26.
Providence outshot UNH, 36-27.
Providence went 1-4 on the power play, while UNH went 0-3.

Crookshank posted his 50th career point tonight with an assist. He has 29 goals and 21 assists over 81 games.
Pierson tallied his fifth goal of the season and the 15th of his career.
Cafarelli extended his point streak to four games with an assist. He has one goal and four assists for five points this season.
