PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jamie Engelbert scored the game-winning goal for the Friars as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 17 Providence, 3-2, at Schneider Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats are now 3-10-2 (3-10-2 Hockey East), while #17 Providence moves to 7-5-4 (7-5-4 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead just 1:24 after the opening face-off when senior forward Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) sent a backhander to junior forward Angus Crookshank (Vancouver British Columbia), who then fired a shot from right in front of the goal to the lower stick side of the net. Sophomore defenseman Kalle Eriksson (Leksand, Sweden) also posted an assist on the goal.
- UNH outshot Providence, 15-5 in the first period, while the Wildcats went 0-3 on the power play.
- At 6:28 of the second period, the Wildcats went on a two-man-advantage power play for two minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.
- But at 17:26, UNH increased its lead to 2-0 when junior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) sent a pass from behind the net to MacAdams who wristed a one-timer to the lower glove side. Senior defenseman Benton Maass (Elk River, Minn.) also tallied an assist on the goal.
- Providence outshot UNH by an 11-4 margin in the second period.
- Providence took advantage of a five-minute major power play as Brett Berard scored on a one-timer from above the slot at 1:21 of the third period to cut the UNH lead to 2-1.
- Then at 3:32 Tyce Thompson tied the game at 2-2 on a wrist shot to the upper stick side of the net from the slot.
- The Friars took the lead just 1:27 later when Engelbert stole the puck from behind the UNH goal and then knocked it to the back of the net.
- With 1:23 left in the third period, the Wildcats went with an empty net for the extra attacker but were unable to score the equalizer as the Friars posted the 3-2 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made 18 saves, while Jaxson Stauber had 29 to earn the win.
- UNH outshot Providence, 31-21.
- The Wildcats went 0-7 on the power play, while Providence went 1-3.
