Gogolin's Double-Double Propels 'Cats to First Road Win

Gogolin posts game-leading 15 points, 10 rebounds ; Torres grabs career-best seven steals
UNH (3-7, 3-4 America East) ended the game on a 5-0 run and held Binghamton (2-7, 2-5 AE) scoreless for the final 2:11 to earn its first road victory of the season.
Torres scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth, and Brooke Kane (Derry, N.H.) was the third Wildcat in double figures (12 points), highlighted by a 3-pointer that snapped a 52-52 tie with 1:08 remaining.
UNH had 12 steals and forced 24 turnovers, which resulted in a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
Denai Bowman paced Binghamton with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter:
- UNH jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 6:43 left in the first by virtue of a basket by Gogolin, a 3 from Kane and two free throws by Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.).
- Binghamton rattled off six straight points to get within 7-6 at 3:03, but the 'Cats responded with the final five points of the quarter, highlighted by Kane's second field goal that made it 11-6 at the end of one.
- The Wildcats posted a 16-9 rebounding edge in the quarter, including 6-0 on the offensive glass.
Second Quarter:
- UNH upped its run to 13-0 and scored the first nine points of the second to open its largest lead, 20-6, with 7:23 left in the half on a pair of Kane FTs.
- Gogolin scored four points during the 9-0 spurt, Groman connected for a 3 and Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-leslBains, France) scored her first bucket.
- BU retaliated with a 15-4 run of its own to trim New Hampshire's lead to 24-21 with 2:12 left in the half. Bowman scored eight points during the stretch.
- UNH outscored Binghamton, 16-15, in the quarter to open a 27-21 halftime lead.
- After being held to 21 first-half points, the Bearcats scored 20 in the third quarter and tied the game for the first time, 41-41, on Cassidy Roberts' jumper with :02 left.
- Paige Cote (Sanford, Maine) scored six of UNH's 14 points in the quarter. The freshman finished with a career-high eight points.
- Binghamton secured its first lead, 43-41, on Bowman's layup 18 seconds into the fourth.
- Torres evened the score 43-all at 9:18.
- Gogolin then scored four consecutive points on a basket and two made FTs to up the lead to 47-43 before Bowman's jumper made it 47-45 with 7:14 left.
- Birna Benonysdottir put the Bearcats back in front, 48-47, with a 3-pointer at 6:31.
- Gogolin assisted on Torres' 3-pointer that swung the lead back to the Wildcats, 50-48, at the 4:57 mark.
- Bowman tied the score 50-50 with a layup at 3:46.
- Torres parlayed her fifth steal into a tiebreaking layup on the other end of the floor for a 52-50 lead with 2:30 left.
- Kaylee Wasco tied the score at 52-52 with BU's last basket at the 2:11 mark.
- After Torres tallied her sixth steal, she fed Kane in the right corner for the go-ahead 3-pointer that made it 55-52 with 1:08 remaining.
- Gogolin drew a charge on Benonysdottir's right-side drive with 38 seconds to go.
- Torres nabbed her seventh steal with 11 seconds left, and Gogolin went 2-for-2 at the FT line to ice the victory.
- UNH outscored Binghamton, 16-11, in the fourth.
Game Notebook
- Torres finished three steals shy of the school record; Corinne Gulas recorded 10 steals against Maine on Feb. 13, 1984.
- Binghamton trailed by as many as 14 points and never led by more than two.
- The game featured four lead changes, all in the fourth quarter.
- UNH went 11-for-17 from the free-throw line, while BU went 0-for-4.
- UNH has won four of its last six games at the Events Center.
- The Bearcats defeated the Wildcats twice in Vestal last season, including the America East quarterfinal matchup.
- UNH was originally scheduled to travel to UMBC this weekend but COVID protocols re-routed the Wildcats to Binghamton.
- America East announced the schedule change Friday, Jan. 8.

- The Wildcats and Bearcats complete their two-game series at the Events Center on Monday at 2 p.m. (ESPN+).
