Murdock & Carbone Win Student-Athlete Spotlight Honors

DURHAM, N.H.- Senior Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) from the UNH women's track and field team and senior Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) from the UNH men's basketball team are the Service Credit Union Student-Athlete Spotlight award recipients for the week of Feb 17-23.
Shannon claimed her sixth individual America East Championship on day one of the 2020 America East Indoor Championship meet. Shannon took first overall in the 5000-meter run, her first recorded finish in the event, with a time of 16:49.55.
Shannon followed up her gold-medal performance on Friday Feb 21, with a runner-up finish on Saturday Feb 22, finishing second in the mile with a time of 4:53.31. She helped add to the Wildcat's fourth place finish with a team total of 100.5 points. It was the team's best overall finish since 2017 Indoor Championships when they finished third with the same team score.

Shannon and the Wildcats return to the BU Track & Tennis Center for the ECAC/IC4A Championships taking place Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

Mark scored a career-high 22 points to help the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a 67-63 overtime win against the University of Hartford on Feb 20. Mark hit 3 of 7 3-point attempts and also went 9-for-10 on free throws, including 5 of 6 in the extra session.
In the second half with UNH trailing 30-25, his pull-up jumper sparked a 10-1 surge that gave the 'Cats a 35-31 lead at 12:30. That run was capped by consecutive 3-pointers just 69 seconds apart from teammate Marque Maultsby and Mark. He hit another clutch 3-pointer to tie the score, 44-44, at 3:33.
Mark's previous career high was 14 points. That mark was established last March at Maine and matches this past November at St. John's. He played 30 minutes, 46 seconds off the bench and committed just one turnover.
He helped UNH go 2-0 this weekend by adding 11 points to the 'Cats 68-56 win against Albany on Feb 22.
Mark and the rest of the 'Cats are back in action Feb. 26 (7 p.m.) at the University of Maine for the next installment in the Border Battle presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. UNH's next home game is Senior Day on Feb. 29 (1 p.m.) against Binghamton University. For tickets as low as $3, click here .
