Thiérus & Lester Win Student-Athlete Spotlight Honors

DURHAM, N.H. - Freshman member of the women's hockey team Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) and senior men's basketball player Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) are the Service Credit Union Student-Athlete Spotlight award recipients for the week of Feb. 3-9.
Tamara earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Feb 10. She had a four-point week as the Wildcats went 2-0-1 against Dartmouth, Boston College, and Merrimack. Tamara had a three-point day against Boston College on Feb 7, tallying two goals and an assist in a 3-0 defeat of the Eagles, and the next day assisted on the game-tying goal in the second period. Tamara has tallied 19 points so far in her first season with six goals and 13 assists. She is now third on the team in points.
Tamara and the rest of the 'Cats take on #9 Boston University Terriers in a home-and-home series starting at the Whittemore Center this Saturday, February 15 (2 p.m.). Former Wildcats will be in attendance celebrating Alumni Day. Click here to purchase tickets.

Chris was named Player of the Week by America East on Monday, Feb 10. He scored a career-high 22 points to lead the 'Cats to a double-digit win against Stony Brook University on Feb 8. Chris made 8 of 13 field goal attempts, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range, and also made three free throws; his other stats included three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 29:12 off the bench. He scored 16 first-half points to propel New Hampshire to a 35-14 halftime lead. He scored five of the team's first seven points to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead. Midway through the first half, Chris scored 10 of the points that put UNH in front 15-4. And with seven minutes left in the half, he accounted for 15 points in the 22-5 margin. He added one foul shot in the closing seconds, and those 16 points surpassed his previous career high of 15.
Chris and the rest of the Wildcats returns to action Feb. 12 (7 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats' next home game is Feb. 20 (7 p.m.) against the University of Hartford. Click here for tickets.
