Wildcats Fall to NJIT in America East Opener

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the Wildcats with 15 points and nine rebounds but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday, 78-57, at Lundholm Gymnasium in the America East opener and the first ever meeting between the two teams as America East opponents. The Wildcats are now 0-3 overall (0-0 America East), while the Highlanders improve to 1-1 overall (1-0 America East).

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
- After sophomore guard Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-Les-Bains, France) netted a three-pointer to start the game, the Highlanders then scored the next 11 points to move out to an early 11-3 lead.
- The Wildcats cut the NJIT advantage to 11-8 with 5:02 left in the first quarter on a layup by freshman Bella Stuart (Clifton Park, N.Y.), but the Highlanders went on an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 19-8.
- The first quarter ended with NJIT up 19-12. Delaruelle led UNH with five points.
- The Wildcats scored nine of the first 13 points of the second quarter to tie the contest at 23-23. With the game then tied at 25-25, a layup by Torres gave UNH a 27-25 advantage with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter.
- But NJIT would outscore the Wildcats by a 12-5 margin to end the first half leading 37-32.
- Torres had a big second quarter leading all players with 12 points.
- NJIT outscored the Wildcats by a 19-11 margin in the third quarter to jump out to a 56-43 lead.
- Squier led all the players during the quarter with seven points.
- The Highlanders secured the win by scoring 22 points to the Wildcats' 14 to take the game, 78-57 as NJIT shot 66.7 percent from the field for the quarter.
