Julia Neyland and Brian Carter are featured in this week's Service Credit Union Student-Athlete Spotlight.
Â
Neyland is a senior midfielder on the women's lacrosse team. She grew up an hour south of campus as she is from Boxborough, Mass. Over her career at UNH, she has earned many accolades including being named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2018 and the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2019 and 2020.
Carter is a senior defensive end on the football team. He is from Port St. Lucie, Fla. and attended St. Edward's High School. Carter has started in 29Â games over his career at UNH. He has also made the CAA Football Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Carter also had the most impressive lift at the Second Annual Bench Out the Stigma.
Now let's get to know both of these excellent student-athletes.
Â
Q&A WITH JULIA

When did you start playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in third grade. It was in middle school when I started to want to play college lacrosse.Â
Â
What made you choose UNH?
A big reason I chose to come to UNH is because I wanted to go to a school closer to home. This has allowed my family to be able to come to almost every game of mine.
Â
What does that family support mean to you?
That is one of the big reasons that I chose to go to school closer to home. Family support is really important to me, and I think it has helped me get this far in my lacrosse career.Â
Â
What would you like to pursue after graduation?
I will be going to graduate school! After graduating, I hope to pursue a career in social work for social work or mental health counseling.Â

Q&A WITH BRIAN

When did you start playing football?
I started playing football when I was in third grade. From sixth to eighth grade, I took a break. It was my freshman year of high school when I picked it up again and I have been playing ever since.
Â
What is your most memorable game as a Wildcat and why?
My most memorable game as a Wildcat has to be the game versus Maine my freshman year. The reason this was my most memorable game is because it was my first college game and it happened to be against our rival. A lot of family came out to support me for that game and we won! Overall, this was an awesome memory.
Â
Being from Florida, what is your favorite thing about living in New England?
I am really starting to appreciate nature and New Hampshire has some of the most beautiful scenery.Â
What will you miss most about UNH and being a part of the football team?
The thing that I will miss most about football and UNH is being immersed in the culture.
