Freshman goaltender Nikki Harnett receives third weekly accolade.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of New Hampshire freshman goaltender Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks, and for the third time this season, after a 2-0-0 weekend in conference play against Holy Cross.
The Wildcats women's ice hockey team faced off with the Crusaders in a home-and-home series last Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, January 24 and 25. Harnett was in net for both contests, which included a 17-save shutout at home on Friday night, and a 21 save effort on Saturday. The Wildcats swept the Crusaders with a 3-0 win on Friday and a 5-2 win on Saturday in Worcester.
Harnett's record on the season improved to 4-3-1 on the weekend, as she's now up to seven starts in her debut season. The award is UNH's eighth weekly award on the year, and it's the fifth time a Wildcat has been named the Rookie of the Week.
Harnett and the Wildcats go on the road this weekend to face Maine in the Border Battle Series presented by Buffalo Wild Wings; the two-game series is set for this Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1. Both puck drops are scheduled for 1 P.M. on CBS CollegeSportsLive.
The 'Cats return to the Whittemore Center the following Tuesday, February 4 at 7 P.M. as they play their final non-conference game of the season against the Dartmouth Big Green. For tickets, visit UNHWildcats.com/tickets or call (603)862-4000.
