DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire executive director of athletics Jon Danos announced Tuesday the hiring of Taylor McCarthy as the University's new associate athletic director for business development. McCarthy brings a wealth of experience in fan engagement, marketing/promotions, sponsorship and ticket sales to UNH after an extensive, nine-year career in Minor League Baseball.
"Taylor's background creating meaningful personal relationships and community connections while providing affordable, fan-friendly entertainment makes him an ideal fit to take on this important role with the Wildcats," Danos said. "He is a New England guy with a proven track record in key areas that are vitally important to our department such as customer satisfaction, relationship building, outbound sales strategies and creative promotions that resonate. These qualities will translate uniquely and very well to our students, alumni and fans."
As the associate athletic director for business development, McCarthy will join the department's efforts to enhance the fan experience, inspire attendance and generate revenue. He will work closely with campus, community and conference stakeholders to grow the UNH Wildcats brand.
McCarthy, a native of Newport, Vt., most recently served as general manager (2014-19) of the Stockton Ports, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The University of Vermont graduate previously worked as GM of the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League for two seasons (2012-13), where he managed marketing and promotions, sponsorship and ticket sales, media relations and game-day operations.
"I'm beyond excited to join the University of New Hampshire and I look forward to working with the community, our corporate partners, season ticket members, faculty and students that make up the best fans in college athletics," McCarthy said. "There's no better time to be a part of Wildcat Nation than now, and I'm eager to assist in providing our fan base with unique and fun experiences with the 'Cats."
McCarthy began his career in 2011 with the public relations and promotions department of the Lowell Spinners (Short-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox).
