Petke's 13 Kills Propels 'Cats Past Holy Cross, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. – Hannah Petke (Rancho Santo Margarita, Calif.) tallied a match-high 13 kills to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-0 victory against College of the Holy Cross at Lundholm Gym.
The set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 25-21, in what was the third match of the 13th Holly Young Invitational. UNH improved to 4-2 overall and Holy Cross fell to 0-4.
In the day's opening match, Brown University rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Seattle University, 3-2, by a 15-7 score in the decisive fifth set.
Petke recorded 13 kills and just one error on 18 attack attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.

- The Wildcats will play Brown next on Sept. 7 (12:30 p.m.). In the other matches that day, Seattle faces Holy Cross at 10 a.m. and the Crusaders play Brown in the finale at 2:30 p.m.

TOP 'CATS
- Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) finished with nine kills, 14 digs, two blocks and a service ace.
- Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded a match-high 18 digs.
- Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) split the setting duties and orchestrated UNH's offense to a .239 hitting percentage. Patlovich tallied a match-high 20 assists and Macaulay had 15.
SET 1
- The Wildcats fell behind 5-2 and then went on a five-point run to take a 7-5 lead.
- New Hampshire and Holy Cross fought back and forth until New Hampshire inched ahead, 16-11.
- Holy Cross pulled within one point at 18-17 and 19-18, but the Wildcats pulled away once again on a 4-1 run to extend the advantage to 23-19.
- A kill by Smith and ace by Tanski closed out the set.
- Petke led the Wildcats with a team-high of six kills in first set.
SET 2
- New Hampshire maintained a small lead of 2-3 points until, with the Wildcats leading 9-6, three consecutive points sparked a 6-1 run that gave UNH a 15-7 advantage.
- Late in the second set, Holy Cross chipped away at the lead and trimmed the deficit to 20-16.
- After the teams exchanged single points, the 'Cats closed out the set on a 4-0 run.
- Petke led the 'Cats with five kills and a block in the second set, and Smith chipped in with four kills and a block.
SET 3
- New Hampshire and Holy Cross fought back and forth early in the third set with five ties and three lead changes.
- Leading 10-9, the Wildcats started to pull away to make the score 14-10.
- The Crusaders closed within 15-13 before UNH reeled off four consecutive points to build a 19-13 advantage. Smith contributed both a block and a kill during the run.
- Late in the third set, Holy Cross went on a 5-0 run to pull within 23-20, but the visitors would get no closer the rest of the way.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Tanski is No. 7 on the program's all-time digs leaderboard with 1,169. Ahead of her on the list is Jillian Ross at 1,207.
- Smith, who became the 17th UNH player to record 1,000 career point on Thursday, increased her total to 1,019.5 with 10 more Friday vs. Holy Cross.
- New Hampshire improved to 2-1 at home.
- UNH has won all 17 lifetime meetings against Holy Cross – 13 in straight sets.
