UNH's Three-Match Win Streak Ends With 3-0 Loss to Rutgers

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team was dispatched in straight sets by Rutgers University in Friday afternoon's opening match of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament, which is being held at Colgate University's Cotterell Court.
The set scores were 25-9, 25-14, 25-19. UNH, which entered on a three-match win streak, is now 6-3 overall. Rutgers improved to 4-3.
UP NEXT: UNH competes in Day 2 of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament. The Wildcats play Colgate University, the host school, at 12:30 p.m. followed by Quinnipiac University at 3 p.m.
NEXT HOME MATCH: New Hampshire's next home match is Oct. 11 against Binghamton University. It is earmarked as a Dig Pink fundraiser, and pink pom poms will be given away to fans.

•Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led UNH in kills (five), blocks (four) and points (7.0).
•Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) finished with a team-high eight digs; she also had three kills and two blocks.
•Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) led the 'Cats with seven assists.

•Rutgers built a 7-3 lead and went on a 7-0 run to take command of the opening set.

•UNH took a pair of early one-point leads (1-0 and 2-1) before the Scarlet Knights won five consecutive points to surge in front, 6-2.
•Trailing 11-3, the Wildcats went on a 5-1 run – including a pair of kills by Katie Jablonski (Elburn, Ill.) – to pull within 12-8.
•Rugters responded with another 5-0 run to extend the advantage to 17-8.

•RU took a 9-4 lead before UNH responded with a 3-0 spurt to trim the margin to 9-7.
•Rutgers pushed the margin to 16-10 but UNH rallied within 19-16, and that prompted the designated visitors to call time out.
•RU won the next two points and 3 of 4 out of the break to build a 22-17 lead.

•Tanski is No. 6 on the program's all-time digs leaderboard with 1,216. Next on the list is Sasha Scott at 1,226.
•Smith, who became the 17th UNH player to record 1,000 career points on Sept. 6, increased her total to 1,043 with 5.0 more vs. Rutgers.
