Marie-Jo Pelletier is the first Wildcat to win the award since 2016.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of New Hampshire senior defender Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brusnwick) has been named the 2018-19 Hockey East Sportsmanship Award winner, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Pelletier, a three-year captain for UNH women's hockey, is just the second Wildcat to be named the Sportsmanship Award winner, and the first since Sara Carlson in the 2015-16 season. Pelletier was also a runner-up for the award in 2016-17, her sophomore season.
The Hockey East Sportsmanship Award is presented each season to a player who demonstrates leadership and commitment both on and off the ice, as voted on by Hockey East head coaches.
"It's been an honor to have the opportunity to coach MJ over the last 4 years." says UNH head coach Hilary Witt. "She plays as hard as anyone I have ever coached and loves the game and appreciates the opportunity to play it. She has so much respect for her team, opponents, officials and everyone else who plays a part in making the sport as amazing as it is. I couldn't be more proud of her."

Pelletier, who wrapped up her UNH career this past weekend in the Hockey East Quarterfinals, finished with 143 career games played, with 52 career points. This season, she tallied 15 of those points, with three goals and 12 assists, which was the second-highest assist total on the team. She tallied one assist in the 2019 Hockey East postseason.
The rest of the Hockey East yearly awards will be announced at Friday's night's banquet, ahead of the semifinal and championship round of the Hockey East tournament.
