Soucy Scores 18, But 'Cats Fall to UMBC on Senior Day

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) scored 18 points to match her career high, but it was not quite enough and the University of New Hampshire dropped its Senior Day game to UMBC, 55-47, on Saturday afternoon in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats finish the regular season with a record of 6-23 overall and 3-13 in America East.
They are the No. 8 seed for the league tournament and play a quarterfinal game at No. 1 Maine on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
UMBC is 10-19 overall and 3-13 in the league. As the No. 7 seed, the Retrievers play at No. 2 Hartford on Wednesday.
The Wildcats played their 14th game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
Te'yJah Oliver had 17 points and seven rebounds and Janee'A Summers 12 points and nine rebounds for UMBC.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats play Maine at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Wednesday night at 7. Maine clinched the top seed with a 67-60 win at Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Bears are 22-7 overall and 15-1 in the league. They swept the regular season series against UNH.
HIGHLIGHTS
Soucy scored 18 points for the second time this season. She had 18 points and 10 rebounds to help the Wildcats knock off Holy Cross, 74-62, in Lundholm on Dec. 9.
Soucy's three consecutive three-pointers lifted the Wildcats from a 14-10 deficit to a 19-16 lead in the second quarter.
She had all three of UNH's treys in the game and was three-for-four from behind the arc. Soucy is second on the team in made three-pointers. She has 35 of the team's 128 treys. Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) has 48 three-pointers.
Soucy's three steals give her a team leading 57 for the year.
Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds and also had eight points. It's the third time this season Gogolin has had at least 10 rebounds.

Soucy scored nine straight UNH points in the second quarter on three consecutive three-pointers.
The Wildcats used a 9-0 run to grab a 24-21 lead at the half.
Soucy had 11 points in the half. Gogolin had nine rebounds and four points in the opening half.
UMBC outscored UNH, 15-7, in the third period to pull in front.
A layup by sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) put UNH within 36-35 with 8:26 left in the fourth quarter.
The Retrievers went on a 7-0 run to pull away.
